Work       FCP Art       About

The DBS Marketplace was the first online consumer Car, Property and Travel marketplace ever built by a bank.

I worked with a team of technical experts, designers, delivery leads who, over a period of 2.5 years, worked with multiple business units at the bank to research, design and deliver the entire marketplace for property, cars and travel.

This was also the first application hosted on public cloud for the bank. We iterated on the product multiple times and added integrations with many third party marketplaces to aggregate the listings in one place.

My involvement began with research for the car marketplace where we conducted interviews with car buyers and sellers, in the used cars segment. The aim was to establish these stakeholders’ expectations of the DBS marketplace platform for used cars, in terms of content, functionality and user experience.

We came up with a list of recommendations as next steps to be prioritised, together with a site map outlining the main features and process flows.

As the design on the car marketplace took off, the team began working on the research for the property marketplace in tandem. The property marketplace was where users could browse, buy/sell or rent/list their property in a seamless way while benefiting from low loan interest rates and partner aggregation. The idea is to offer a disruptive solution to increase onboarding and offer added value to existing customers.

DBS wanted to stand out from their competition, offering a financial guidance angle by offering a variety of financial planning tools such as the DBS Home Planner as you see in the image above. The Home Planner allows customers to calculate and adequetely plan their finances to understand what property type and budget options are available to them and to also compare this to the finances for the house of their dreams.

With the success of the car and property markeplace, DBS now turned it’s attention to the travel marketplace, where I was the lead designer collaborating with the other designers across the different streams of car, property, hotel and flights, to deliver a cohesive marketplace.

Process

Across the different streams, the team conducted both primary and secondary user research to identify the needs of the users and marrying these with the success metrics defined at the onset with DBS.

After synthesising the research, a visioning workshop was conducted by the team, with the product owners and key stakeholders. The aim was for alignment towards a common vision and expectations as well as prioritise features and recommendations towards a structured product backlog. Based on the prioritised features, low fidelity to high fidelity wireframes were created and tested repeatedly with end users before the UI was created.

Across the different streams we worked to create and test a responsive design. The team worked closely with front end developers to translate specific interations and design details for production.
